Trick or Science Barakaldo

We are students of IES Cruces High School. All the students go to the school five days a week. In our high school we study these subjects: Spanish, Basque, Mathematics, History, Biology, PE, Physics and Chemistry and English. Some students choose Latin, Computing or Drawing. We start school at 8:15 . On Wednesdays and Fridays we finish lessons at 14:15 and the other days we go home to eat at 12:20 and then we return to the high school at 14:20. Finally, we finish high school lessons at 16:10.

BEC
(BILBAO EXHIBITION CENTRE)

The BEC is the biggest feir in Spain,that is located in Barakaldo (Bilbao).
In the pavillion, can enter 16,000 people and 18 if they are watching sports. The place HELDS basketball games regularly(Bilbao Basket). 2014 World Cup Basketball TOOK PLACE HERE.

Our flag is called Ikurriña, it colours are red, white and green. Sabino Arana invented the Ikurriña. There are other Basque symbols, one of the most important of them is the lauburu.

In Barakaldo,there is an important hospital. Cruces hospital is a hospital that is located in cruces, Barakaldo. It’s the most important hospital in Basque Country. It’s very important because
many operations are done in this place. The architect of this hospital was Martín José Marcide Odriozola. This hospital started working in 1955, in July. Now, it has got more than 1000 beds capacity.

BBK live is a music festival in Bilbao

It´s quite famous festival, a lot of people go there, this year in the last day they were 102.865 persons and it´s nominated to the prizes ``Fest´´ and ``Festival Adwards´´.

Here, in the Basque Country we have a lot of different and exciting sports like this:

Sokatira (in English “tug of war”) : There are two teams and they have one rope, they start pulling and the person who casts the other person wins.

Harri jasotsaile (“ in English Stone picking”): There is one person, and he or she lifts stones in “x” time, for example. In one minute, how many stones can you lift ?

San Mames is football stadium located in Bilbao ( Vizcaya, Spain). Inagurated on 16 September 2013. The stadium HAS replaced the old San Mames. The first stone was placed on 26 may of 2010. In 2015 San Mames was awarded in the “ World Architecture Festival” , celebrated in Singapur as the best building sports in the world.

The Guggenheim museum is a museum of modern and contemporry art, made by the Canadian architect Frank Gehry and it is located in Bilbao, it is located concretlly in Abandoibarra road.The museum was inaugurated on 18 October 1997.
In the main door of this museum you can see an enormus dog made of flowers wHich is a very good place to take an amazing photo.

Basque gastronomy is very well-known in Spain. It is very traditional to eat different types of snacks in the bars. In the picture we can see the differents types of snack that is typical to find in the bars like: Spanish omelette(that is customary from Spain), octopus, cod, chili peper…

One of the most famous food in the Basque Counrtry it´s marmitako.It´s made of cod,potatoes and pepper (in general we eat a lot of fish). The Basque cake is also common

ATHLETIC CLUB

Athletic is a team of football in the Basque Country. It is the most important here. It was created in 1889. They are known as Los Leones (The Lions) because their stadium was built near a church called San Mamés.

Basque dancing is a very important part of Basque culture.
Each province has got a different dance, some of those dances, are very old, that´s why we don´t know when they were created.
A lot of people dance them, and sometimes people meet to dance them all together.
Boys and girls can dance them.

The Vizcaya Bridge is a transporter bridge that links the towns of Portugalete and Las Arenas in the Biscay province of Basc Country ,crossing the mouth of the Nervion river.People in the area call it the Puente Colgante.The Vizcaya Bridge was built to connect the 2 banks which are situated at the mouth of the Nervion river.It’S the oldest bridge in the world and this transporter bridge was built in 1893, made it and designated by Alberto Palacios

Dominion Bilbao Basket is a basketball team that represents Bilbao. The stadium is located in Miribilla in Bilbao. Today (17-10-2016) they are second on the competition in the same place as Tenerife. In the last year they finished in the ninth position and got a place to play Eurocup.

In Bilbao there isn´t a lot of festivals,only there are in summer, we go to explain two festivals :Holi Festival and BBK Live.

Holi Festival starts at 12:00 and finished at 22:00,in this festival they put music but the most important thing are powders of colors.

You throw the powders while you dancing with the music.

The official language of Basque Country is Euskera. In different parts of Basque Country people speaks different types of Euskera, such as, Batua, Gipuzkoarra, Bizkaiera...

Gaztelugatxe is an islet on the Basque Coast, belonging to the municipality of Bermeo. It is connected to the mainland by a man-made bridge. On top of the island stands a hermitage named Gaztelugatxeko Doniene. Part of the 7th season of Game of Thrones was filmed in the nearings.

BILBAO’S RIVER

The stuary of Bilbao, unites the waters of Ibaizabal and the Bay of Biscay.
It is 16km long. Most Biscayans call it “The Nervion” river.

The rives has got it’s museum, that is called “Estuary of Bilbao’s Sea Museum”
That museum is located in the capital of Biscay.

Barakaldo is a city located in the left side of the Nervion river. The population in Barakaldo is about 100061 inhabitants according to 2011’s cense. Türchen 1 17-10-2016	Barakaldo is a city located in the left side of the Nervion river. The population in Barakaldo is about 100061 inhabitants according to 2011’s cense.
